Wheelchair Curling Program

Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center will be partnering up with the Coyotes Curling Club to run our first ever Wheelchair Curling program for the months of January and February. If you are ready for your new adventure on ice, enroll now!! You can be a wheelchair or powerchair user, don’t worry for your skill level. Friends and family are welcome to join!

But, what is Wheelchair Curling??

Wheelchair curling is an adaptation of curling for athletes with a disability.

Is played with the same rocks and on the same ice as regular curling, though the rocks are thrown from a stationary wheelchair and there is no sweeping. Rocks may be thrown by hand while leaning over the side of the wheelchair, or pushed by a delivery stick. This is a pole with a bracket that fits over the rock handle, allowing the rock to be pushed while applying correct rotation.
Stones delivered between the house and the near hogline must be placed within 18 inches either side of the centre line and must be released prior to reaching the near hogline.

The Recreational training with a Coyotes Curling Coach will be held every Wednesday night from January 3rd to February 21st. After that you will have the chance to get a spot to compete against national teams on a Tournament held:

Saturday & Sunday February 24th and 25th

Winner Team will receive a trophy.

January 3rd – February 21st.

*Must be 16 years of age or older.

**Wear warm clothing: hats, gloves, sweater, long pants and closed shoes.
