Sometimes it is the simple things in life that can mean the most. For five Wounded Warrior Alumni members and their families, along with members of the SpoFit staff, it was a weekend of camping at the Friendly Pines Camp in Prescott that provided everyone with an opportunity to find reasons to appreciate the outdoors and each other.
This was the first family camping trip for SpoFit staff with Alumni and their families. Members were able to connect not only with other Alumni members but with their families through various activities. Everyone enjoyed horseback riding, rock wall climbing and even just tossing around a football with the kids.
The highlight for most of the participants was the horseback riding. Many had never ridden a horse before, and while the adults and older children were riding, the younger children enjoyed feeding and petting the ponies and participating in a scavenger hunt in the woods.
“The kids are saying ten stars out of ten stars”, said Alumni member JP Villont. He added that he believes this weekend is the first time his kids have seen him laugh out loud, in public or anywhere.
The family camping trip was made possible through funding from Wounded Warrior Project.” (and . SpoFit is one of only seven Program Providers for Wounded Warrior Project in the US.
