SpoFit would like to announce Brett Butler as Volunteer of the Month for July. Since March of 2013 Brett has been a dedicated volunteer, always going above and beyond to help SpoFit members and staff! After one of Brett’s professors recommended checking out SpoFit he was hooked. He always wants to help in any way he can whether that be helping the front desk, assisting with summer camp, being a friendly face up in the fitness room, aiding with special events and even helping with power soccer practice.
Brett recently graduated in May from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. He is pursuing physical therapy schools in the coming year. Brett enjoys cycling, golf, swimming, snowboarding, hiking and basically anything outdoors. Not to forget cooking, country and swing dancing and traveling.
Brett originally began volunteering because he needed volunteer hours to apply to grad school, but stated that he soon realized there is much more to SpoFit than documenting hours. Brett works hard to achieve his three passions: sports, helping others achieve their goals, and focusing on abilities instead of disabilities. When asked why he continues to volunteer at SpoFit Brett said, “Whether I am helping out a member in the fitness room, or operating a score board for an adaptive sports tournament, the ambition-filled environment is contagious to do even more for the facility.
One of Brett’ favorite moments volunteering at SpoFit was the awe-inspiring Paralympic Talent ID Day in February of 2014. Paralympic scouts and Olympians came to SpoFit to speak to and provide motivation to the upcoming athletes which definitely challenged the participants to work on their A game.
Thank you Brett for your continued hard work and dedication to SpoFit members and staff while volunteering. The SpoFit staff greatly appreciates you!
