Independent living is the freedom to direct one’s own life. Each individual has the right to optimize their personal ability and fully integrate into the community. ABIL assists motivated consumers in developing self-determined goals to gain greater independence.

Our independent living skills instruction includes: use of community resources, budgeting, transportation skills, cooking skills, self-advocacy, household management, communication skills and stress management.

Building Bridges – Empowering Youth with Disabilities into Adulthood
This program assists high school students, age 14-22-years-old, to transition from high school into community life.

Community Living Options
This program offers services for high-functioning individuals with a developmental disability who are ineligible for Federal &State support services.

Community Integration
Community ntegration means discovering you DO have choices.  Too often individuals who have spent years in a nursing home become “institutionalized” and are not aware of the options available to them.

Early Intervention
ABIL works with major rehabilitation centers in the Valley to provide peer support to newly disabled individuals during their rehabilitation.

Home Modification
Through local block grants and other resources, ABIL increases home accessibility, independence and safety by working with licensed contractors to provide modifications such as widening doorways, building ramps, grab bars, raised toilets and other needed structural modifications.

Socialization Through Recreation
The Socialization through Recreation Program offers opportunities to meet new people, develop interpersonal skills, gain self-confidence, and most of all to have fun.
