Ability360. Phoenix Section 8 Housing: After 11 Years, Waiting List Opens. August 8 to 19, 9 am to 5 pm.

The city of Phoenix Housing Department will accept applications for the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program beginning 9am Monday, August 8, through Friday, August 19 at 5pm.

The city’s HCV program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is available for low-income individuals and families to provide safe and decent affordable housing. Program participants pay at least 30 percent of their adjusted gross monthly income toward their rent to a private landlord of their choice and the program will pay the landlord the remaining balance of the rent.

Once the application period closes, 10,000 applicants will be randomly selected using a lottery system and will be placed on the wait list.

What information do I need to apply for the wait list?

You will need the following information to complete the application:

  • All Household member information including Social Security numbers, names, birth dates, etc.
  • Contact information: address, phone numbers and email address
  • Contact information for any persons you would like us to contact if we cannot reach you
  • Family income and assets (including Name and Address for Employer)
How to apply:

Residents are required to complete their applications online. Public facilities such as libraries may provide computer access at no cost.
