SpoFit’s second Try-A-Tri on Saturday, October 20th was a huge success! This indoor sprint triathlon consisted of 10 minutes of swimming, 20 minutes of biking, and 15 minutes of running/jogging/walking/pushing. The event saw a great mix of returning and new Try-A-Tri participants. Many of the returning athletes came back with the goal of exceeding their performances in the previous Try-A-Try, while the new participants were simply excited for the challenges that awaited them.
Throughout the day, the Try-A-Tri athletes swam, cycled, and ran their way around the SpoFit. As the participants pushed themselves, several goals and milestones were achieved. Returning Try-A-Try athlete, Nick Pitts, swam 50 meters further than he did last time! Pitts said, “I liked Try-A-Tri because it involved the pool, bikes, and track – all things that I enjoy.” First-timer, Dan Fulton, was hesitant about the running portion of this event since he has an injury that causes difficulty with balance, which makes it hard for him to walk. After he was assured that no one at SpoFit judges anyone’s abilities, he said that it made him feel better and that he would set the goal to walk one lap around the track for the running portion. Dan ended up exceeding his original goal by making it around the track nearly three times!
It was a fantastic day for everyone involved. Several athletes pushed themselves outside of their comfort zone and achieved new heights. First time participant Jame Wehe said, “Try-A-Tri was wonderful. Thank you.” Whether you’re preparing for your next triathlon, or have ever considered doing one but didn’t know if you could handle it, Try-A-Tri is a perfect opportunity to give it a go! If you’ve missed the first two, don’t worry because we will have more in the coming months, so keep an eye out for the next one!
